What Is Rugby?

Rugby is a fast, physical, exhilarating team sport played with an oval ball on a grass field. Teams score by grounding the ball in the opponent’s in-goal for a “try” (5 points), with additional points from conversions and penalty kicks.

We play two exciting formats: 

• 15s     – Full teams of 15, strategic and flowing with scrums, lineouts, rucks,      and mauls. 
• 7s –      Smaller teams of 7, high-speed, open-field action that highlights agility,      speed, and skill.

The ball can only be passed backward, but play continues after tackles (safely, below the shoulders), creating constant movement and excitement. With world-class safety protocols, proper technique training, and female-led coaching, rugby is a safe, empowering contact sport that builds respect, discipline, and unbreakable bonds.

Rugby shapes confident, resilient young women in ways few sports can match. 

• Physical power & body positivity: Girls build real strength, speed, endurance, and coordination—learning to celebrate what their bodies can achieve.

 Women’s rugby is exploding at the college level—and scholarships are real and growing. NCAA Division I, NIRA, and other programs (Stanford, Ohio State, Michigan, Life University, and dozens more) offer athletic scholarships to meet Title IX goals. Awards range from partial to full rides, often combined with academic aid. Valkyries gives your daughter every advantage:

Local League Play (U10–U19)
Atlanta Girls play in the Georgia SYRO (State Youth Rugby Organization) league—a welcoming, short season of about 6 weeks of matches against other Georgia teams. Ideal for skill-building in a fun, low-pressure setting.

Valkyries Rugby – Open to All, Elite for the Driven
We’re the only all-girls rugby club in the Southeastern US, proudly based in Atlanta and welcoming girls from across the metro area—and the entire nation—through our Ecosystem program. 

• Open Tournaments: Any girl, from anywhere in the country, can attend our open tournaments and play alongside our Atlanta Valkyries. Drop in, experience elite-level events, make new friends, and grow—no commitment required. Perfect for trying rugby, gaining exposure, or supplementing her local team. 
• Valkyries Vanguard - Our Elite Select Side: For highly competitive players firmly committed to continuing rugby past high school, we offer the Valkyries      Vanguard. Selection is rigorous and intentional: a written application, video submission, and interview process. These experienced athletes compete at the highest levels in select tournaments, pushing their skills while staying within our supportive Valkyries family.

This dual structure lets us grow the game inclusively—providing fun, accessible play for everyone while delivering true elite opportunities for those chasing college, national, or international paths—all in one organization.

Our club fields teams at approximately 10 tournaments per season in both 7s and 15s formats—far more game time, development, and excitement than league alone. Every player gets meaningful minutes, level-appropriate coaching, chances to “play up,” and the unforgettable “Team House” tournament vibe (bonding, support staff, lifelong memories).
